LEED GOLD Facility
The Combat Weather Operations Facility project is a multi-story 79,962 square foot building designed to serve the 10th Combat Weather Squadron (10th CWS) and a separate 10,000 square foot covered storage facility. The project includes administrative, storage and warehouse areas. The main building is steel framed with masonry veneer and walled construction with a standing seam metal roof. It is designed with force protection in mind; fully complying with DoD Force Protection Requirements. The project is designed to be high security with six foot high FE-6 security fence with controlled access and sliding vehicle gates operated by electronic keypads. It includes secure and non-secure parking. The 10th Combat Weather Squadron operates in frequent deployment and training operations. This facility houses three individual team bays with roll up doors, equipment cages, training rooms, and locker rooms with shower facilities for each team.
The 10th CWS is supported in house by a full service adjacent administrative building which includes supply room, life support, a secure armory vault, weapons cleaning, dive gear rinse tank and storage, and meeting rooms. The controlled access second floor contains offices and operations for team support. In addition the site also has a forty foot tall rappel training tower with fast rope capabilities, a 200 foot long storage building, and heavy duty ISU storage area.
The project began with a 480 calendar day schedule. Approximately 100 days were added to the schedule from impacts of materials discovered on site, as the project was built on a landfill and was previously used for dumping debris.
LEED® The building is designed to meet the requirements for “Silver” Certification through the USGBC.
