Speegle understands the importance of protecting limited natural resources, and as a member of the USGBC, is actively involved in designing and constructing buildings to LEED® standards.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System is an independent certification program that provides voluntary guidelines for the construction and alteration of buildings in order to achieve high-performance, ecology friendly facilities. LEED® was developed and created by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The program awards varying levels of certification (Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum) to buildings that meet LEED® rating standards. The five major areas of focus for improving building efficiency are sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
LEED® standards exist for the categories of new construction, existing building remodeling, and can be applied to homes, commercial facilities and even neighborhood development as well. Architects, engineers, interior designers, landscape architects, and facilities managers use LEED® when developing new projects. From inception in 1998 LEED® has grown to encompass more than 89,600 projects in the United States and 30 countries covering over 17.1 billion square feet (1.06 km²) of development area (www.usgbc.org/articles/usgbc-statistics). Most new State and Federal projects are constructed to LEED® standards. Click this link to learn more about the U.S. Green Building Council.
